Google Music will be arriving in time for holiday purchases?

September 3, 2010 Leave a comment says according to sources, Google is in the final stages of discussions with labels to be able to open a downloadable store as well as player that will allow users to hear songs via mobile technology.

Unidentified label executive told Reuters

“Finally here’s an entity with the reach, resources and wherewithal to take on iTunes as a formidable competitor by tying it into search and Android mobile platform.  What you’ll have is a very powerful player in the market that’s good for the music business.”

Google must know that Steve Jobs is waiting in the wings for the final final of this discussion, because he does not take kindly to competition.  Ask Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe and the list goes on.

Ted Cohen, former EMI exec says

“If they get it right, it will hasten the transition by consumers from music you have to own to music you need ubiquitous access to”
