Owning a laptop increases your chances of getting ‘toasted skin syndrome’

Researchers have come to the conclusion that holding a laptop on your lap for extended periods of time on a continuous basis can lead to “toasted skin syndrome.”

“Toasted skin syndrome” comes from the warmth of the laptop heating up your skin, which can lead to various skin afflictions from unusual-looking mottled skin to sponge-patterned discoloration and more.

The sponge-patterned discoloration happened to a 12-year old boy.  “He recognized that the laptop got hot on the left side; however, regardless of that, he did not change its position,” Swiss researchers reported in an article published Monday in the journal Pediatrics. (AP)
